Building Resilience in Education Amid Crisis: A Lifeline for Children in Bui Division, Cameroon
By Knowledge for Children Cameroon
In the face of ongoing conflict and hardship, hope can be found in collective action and unwavering commitment to education. Knowledge for Children Cameroon is proud to launch the Resilience in Education Project, a powerful initiative aimed at restoring and strengthening the educational landscape in the crisis-affected Bui Division of the Northwest Region of Cameroon.
This life-changing project is made possible through the generous support of BMZ, Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken, and the Shisasay Foundation. Spanning from October 2024 to September 2025, the project is designed to directly address the multifaceted challenges that children, teachers, and communities continue to face due to the Anglophone crisis.
Our Core Interventions
The Resilience in Education Project centers around five critical areas of support:
-
Teacher Capacity Development
Training and empowering educators is vital for quality education. The project will train 300 teachers to enhance their professional skills and resilience in a fragile and demanding teaching environment. -
Provision of Learning Materials
To bridge the gap in access to learning resources, we are donating textbooks and teachers’ guides to 50 schools, supporting the academic needs of over 12,500 children. -
Establishing Birth Certificates for Vulnerable Children
A legal identity is the first step toward securing children’s rights. We are assisting over 500 children to obtain birth certificates, helping ensure their access to education and other basic services. -
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
In times of crisis, mental health is often overlooked. This project is training 100 focal persons to provide MHPSS First Aid, while working with schools and communities to offer psychosocial support, creating safer and more nurturing learning environments. -
Community Engagement and Inclusion
The project is deeply rooted in the principle of collaboration. By working closely with local communities, school administrators, and regional education authorities, we ensure that interventions are sustainable and aligned with the actual needs of beneficiaries.
A Beacon of Hope
Bui Division has suffered significant disruption due to the Anglophone crisis, leading to school closures, displacement, trauma, and a decline in quality education. Despite these challenges, this project stands as a beacon of hope—not only for the children, but for the entire educational ecosystem.
We believe that education is not only a right—it is a tool for peace and recovery. Through the Resilience in Education Project, we are creating safer spaces for children to learn, grow, and heal, while building stronger capacities among educators and caregivers to provide the support these children urgently need.
Looking Ahead
As the project unfolds over the coming months, we will continue to share stories, milestones, and insights from the field. The resilience of the children, teachers, and communities we serve inspires us every day, and we are committed to standing with them every step of the way.
Together—with our partners, supporters, and communities—we can ensure that no child is left behind, even in the midst of crisis.
